Eight-time Grammy Award-winning country singer Kacey Musgraves has asked fans to support a charity advocating for immigrant children as she celebrated her birthday during the opening night of her Middle of Nowhere tour.
Musgraves made the appeal on Friday at Chicago’s United Center, encouraging concertgoers to donate to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, which provides legal and other support to unaccompanied and separated immigrant children.
Describing the organisation as a cause close to her heart, Musgraves said she wanted to use her birthday wish to help children whose parents had been deported.
“It’s not a political thing. It’s just, these kids need help,” she told the audience.
The Chicago-based organisation works with attorneys, social workers and volunteers to advocate for children in government custody. It reported assisting 1,975 children from 53 countries in 2024.
Musgraves has supported the charity previously. In April, resale platform Depop announced that 20 items from her wardrobe would be sold in capsule collections, with proceeds going to the Young Center.
The singer has also previously invited three young mariachi musicians to perform at her Texas shows after their family was released from ICE custody.
