Kogi West 2027: Fatosa Challenges Yusuf To Show Case 12-Years Record Of Legislative Bid

The Campaign organization of Senatorial Candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC in Kogi West, for the 2027; general election , Muyiwa Fatosa  for the 2027  has challenged  Teejay Yusuf to make public his legislative record in the National Assembly as part of what it described as an issues-based debate ahead of the 2027 Kogi West Senatorial election.

In a statement issued  on Sunday,  the campaign organization said it was responding to a statement  allegedly  issued  by the Teejay Media Team, which it said had dragged  Fatosa into a debate over an article he neither authored nor authorised.

The campaign said its attention was drawn to the statement presented as a response  to an article “neither written, authorised nor issued by Mr. Muyiwa Fatosa or the Muyiwa Fatosa Campaign Organisation.”

“Ordinarily, such a statement would require no response from us. Political commentary is an essential part of democracy,” the statement said.

It, however, said it considered it necessary to respond to comments questioning Mr. Fatosa’s political  popularity .

“We neither authored nor commissioned the original article and its authors are perfectly capable of defending their position,” the campaign  organization said.

The Fatosa camp also disagreed with what it described as an interpretation of the rotation principle in Kogi West.

According to the statement, discussions about political rotation in the district are often framed around three broad political axes: Lokoja/Koton Karfe, Kabba/Ijumu and Yagba, rather than individual local government areas.

“Reducing that political history to individual Local Governments does not, in our view, address the broader question of equity among these three axes,” it said.
The group also argued that the participation of previous aspirants from particular areas does not necessarily amount to representation.

“Contesting an election is not the same as occupying a seat. Aspiration cannot be counted as representation,” it stated.
The campaign therefore asked: “How has actual Senate representation been distributed among the Lokoja/Koton Karfe, Kabba/Ijumu and Yagba axes, and where does equity reasonably point today?”

It also called on Yusuf to make his legislative record available for public assessment, noting that he spent 12 years in the House of Representatives and served as Chairman of the House Committee on Capital Market and Institutions during the Eighth Assembly.
“Winning elections three times demonstrates electoral success. The question is what legislative achievements should be associated with that period of service,” the campaign said.

It listed areas it wants the  former senator to address, including legislative interventions, federal projects, economic opportunities and infrastructure initiatives associated with his years in the National Assembly.

The Fatosa Campaign Organisation also rejected comments questioning Mr. Fatosa’s political visibility, describing such remarks as part of normal political contestation.

It said elections provide citizens with the opportunity to choose among competing candidates and programmes.

“Democracy thrives because citizens have alternatives. No political party has a hereditary entitlement to Kogi West,” it stated.

The campaign called for an open debate on issues affecting the district, including insecurity, unemployment, infrastructure, agriculture, education and healthcare.
“Let Hon. Teejay Yusuf present his 12-year National Assembly record. Let Muyiwa Fatosa present his credentials, vision and programme.

Then let the people decide,” the statement concluded.

The group said the central question for voters was whether the candidates could present credible records, programmes and ideas capable of addressing the needs of Kogi West.

“That is not propaganda. That is democracy,” it added.
