Women, Youths Engaged In Clean Cooking Entrepreneurship

A group, Women Initiative for Sustainable Environment (WISE), in partnership with the Energy and Environmental Law Club, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has engaged women and youths on clean cooking entrepreneurship as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and climate action.

The founder/director of WISE, Olanike Olugboji Daramola, disclosed this at the EcoCare Campus Initiative 2026 Clean-Up Campaign held at the Kongo Campus of ABU, Zaria, in honour of Comrade Jerry Adams, former executive chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS).

Daramola stressed the need for increased public awareness on climate change, urging individuals and communities to adopt environmentally friendly practices.

According to her, WISE is committed to promoting environmental ideas, culture and practices by empowering women and youth to become environmental stewards, climate actors, and peace builders.

She said the organisation was also leading efforts to promote sustainable cooking and lighting solutions and to transform communities through eco-friendly practices and improved access to renewable energy.

The WISE director further explained that women were being positioned as the vanguard of innovative waste recycling and upcycling initiatives to create cleaner, greener communities.

She noted that WISE adopts an integrated approach to environmental sustainability through projects and programmes covering hygiene, municipal waste management and tourism.

Daramola said the EcoCare Campus Initiative 2026 Clean-Up Campaign was organised as a special honour to Comrade Jerry Adams, former Executive Chairman of KADIRS, with participants actively involved in campus and community clean-up exercises, environmental awareness campaigns and volunteer activities.

She called for greater collaboration among stakeholders, particularly women, youths, academic institutions and environmental organisations, to address climate change and promote sustainable development.
