Foundation Trains Boko Haram Victims in Income Generation, Saving Skills

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development with funding from International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN), has begun the training of 60 victims of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State on income generation, saving skills, business management, care giving and safeguarding.

The three-day training which began yesterday in Maiduguri with the theme, “Strengthening Pathways to Reintegration and Community Resilience against Violent Extremism in Borno State” involved 40 livelihood beneficiaries (victims of armed conflict) and 20 care givers, bringing the total trainees to 60.

At the programme, the monitoring and evaluation manager Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, Maigari Hamza, said the training is to strengthen their knowledge in terms of business management, savings and record keeping so that they will have successful reintegration.

Hamza noted that anything done to reintegrate victims of terrorism, especially in the North East, requires provision of livelihood support, saying that was the reason ICAN is supporting the beneficiaries with starter-packs so that the reintegration will be sustainable.

” Initially, we have been having deradicalisation programme. Enrolling the victims into schools, training them in skill acquisition and after that, it is good to support them with livelihood support,” the monitoring and evaluation manager Allamin Foundation said.
