The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed four facilities in Nasarawa State for allegedly violating environmental standards and operating without required environmental management documents.
The enforcement operation targeted facilities whose activities were considered capable of undermining environmental sustainability and posing risks to public health.
The affected facilities are ABZAT Quarry, Hoafong Mining Trading Company Ltd, Emono Venture and Mivanyi Integrated Farms.
The enforcement team, led by the head of operations, Karu Operational Office of NESREA, Mr Da’am Monday, cited various infractions, including air pollution and the absence of mandatory environmental documentation such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
NESREA said the action was part of its statutory responsibility to enforce environmental laws and ensure that businesses and other operators comply with approved standards designed to protect the environment and human health.
The agency warned facilities operating across the country against practices that could degrade the environment, urging them to embrace environmentally responsible methods and deploy the best available technology in their operations.
According to NESREA, the latest enforcement action underscores its determination to strengthen compliance and hold operators accountable for activities that threaten environmental safety.
The agency reaffirmed that it would continue to monitor facilities and enforce relevant environmental laws, standards and regulations to safeguard public health and promote sustainable development.
In a statement issued on Friday, the assistant director, Press, NESREA, Nwamaka Ejiofor, said the agency remained committed to ensuring strict compliance with environmental regulations across the country.
She urged businesses and other regulated entities to take environmental obligations seriously and ensure that their operations meet prescribed standards.
