Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have killed 21 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during a joint offensive on a terrorist enclave in the Kopre Mountain general area of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State.
The operation followed an ongoing search-and-rescue mission aimed at locating and freeing abducted persons held by the terrorists.
In a statement, the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation was conducted by troops of the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team and newly inducted personnel of 226 Battalion, deployed to Sector 4, Adamawa State.
Goni said the troops, acting on credible intelligence and under the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, stealthily penetrated the difficult terrain and launched a precision strike on the terrorist camp in the early hours of August 27, 2026.
He said the operation was part of efforts to locate and rescue victims being held by the terrorists, including persons abducted from Mussa community in May and the Lassa schoolchildren kidnapped in June.
According to him, the troops engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters after successfully closing in on the camp.
“Following fierce engagements, over 21 terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said.
Goni said the troops subsequently dominated the area, dismantled the terrorist camp and destroyed associated logistics infrastructure, further degrading the group’s operational capability in the area.
During the exploitation of the location, the troops also destroyed several motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit, believed to have been used to support the terrorists’ logistics and mobility.
The troops recovered several AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Goni said the operation demonstrated the joint force’s tactical proficiency, intelligence-gathering capability and capacity to project combat power into difficult terrain.
He added that the operation further showed the ability of the troops to dismantle terrorist enclaves and deny insurgents freedom of action across the theatre of operations.
The Military High Command commended the ONSA Tactical Team and Operation HADIN KAI troops for their gallantry, professionalism, resilience and seamless coordination during the operation.
