LASPA Ends Grace Period, Begins Enforcement Of 2026 Parking Permits

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has commenced enforcement of parking regulations across its operational zones following the expiration of the extended grace period granted customers to obtain their 2026 parking permits.

The enforcement followed several appeals, reminders and direct communications by the Authority urging customers to regularise their operations and secure the required permits.

According to a statement by the Lagos State Government, LASPA General Manager, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, said the extension was granted to give affected customers additional time to comply with the requirements and obtain their 2026 permits.

She, however, said the Authority was compelled to begin enforcement after a significant number of customers failed to regularise their activities despite the additional time provided.

Adelabu said the exercise was aimed at ensuring compliance with the laws governing the transport sector while strengthening parking management across the state.

She explained that LASPA had previously issued 2026 Demand Notices to all registered customers, outlining the applicable fees, requirements and procedures for obtaining the permits.

The general manager urged customers who were yet to comply to take immediate steps to fulfil their obligations and avoid sanctions.

“The enforcement exercise is not intended to be punitive, but a necessary measure to restore order, accountability, and efficiency within Lagos’ parking ecosystem,” Adelabu said.

She stressed that valid parking permits and accurate customer records were essential to effective planning, monitoring and regulation of parking infrastructure and services across the state.

Adelabu further warned that customers who defaulted on the 2026 Demand Notices would face severe sanctions, including substantial fines and immediate suspension of operations.

She said the penalties were provided for under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, urging affected customers to regularise their operations and obtain the required permits without further delay.

She added that LASPA personnel remained available to assist customers, particularly those requiring guidance on the Authority’s online payment and registration portals.

Adelabu also reaffirmed LASPA’s commitment to developing an efficient and sustainable parking system for residents, businesses and visitors across Lagos.

She called on residents to cooperate with enforcement officers and report unauthorised parking activities to the Authority.
