NYC Chairman Seeks Improved Youth Empowerment

The newly inaugurated Chairman of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) in Imo State, Prince Stanley Ugochukwu, has called on youth associations to partner with the organisation to demand better representation.

Ugochukwu made the appeal during his first press briefing after his inauguration as NYC Chairman in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

He said that under his leadership, the NYC would be all-encompassing, as he and other youth bodies in Imo State would continue to align, work together and cooperate to help engineer actual development in the oil- and gas-producing state.

Ugochukwu appealed to Governor Hope Uzodimma and his cabinet to intensify democratic governance to advance the people’s desire for a better standard of living.

The NYC chairman called on the state Ministry of Youth and Talent Hunt to expedite action on youth empowerment through employment in government establishments, the public and civil services, skills acquisition, trades, formal education, among others, to reduce poverty, suffering, hardship and vulnerability.

He said, “I am calling on every youth leader in Imo State to cue in with the NYC leadership to strengthen youth welfare and empowerment. We are willing to work cordially and effectively with all the youths of Imo in order to improve good governance.

“Looking at how impoverished the youths are, the NYC leadership is not happy. Hence, we are going to work more closely with the Imo State Government, particularly the Commissioner for Youth and Talent Hunt, Dr. Emeka Mandela Ukaegbu, to see that the youths are adequately empowered, especially through skills acquisition such as digital/ICT training, trades, including access to political positions either by election or appointment.

“This is because when the youths are adequately empowered, they will be enabled to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state, while peace and security will be enhanced and crime reduced significantly.”

According to him, the achievements recorded by the Uzodimma-led 3R administration had largely encouraged productivity and commercial activities, saying they had improved peace, security, social development and economic prosperity in the state.

Ugochukwu hailed Governor Uzodimma for what he described as quality projects in Imo State, especially road infrastructure, the Orashi Electricity Project and the attraction of the Robotic and Ontology Surgery Centre, among other numerous programmes.

He said, “I commend Governor Hope Uzodimma for his good leadership, which has given rise to numerous valuable achievements, especially in the areas of road infrastructure, the Orashi Electricity Project and the attraction of the Robotic and Ontology Hospital.”

Ugochukwu further expressed gratitude to the National President of the NYC, Engr. Jethro Annum, for finding him worthy of leadership and appointing him as the Imo State Chairman of the NYC. He pledged absolute service to Imo State youths, vowing that he could not afford to disappoint them.
