Over 1,500 farmers across the Darazo/Ganjuwa federal constituency of Bauchi State have benefitted from solar-powered irrigation equipment provided through the intervention of the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mansur Manu Soro.
Speaking on the initiative yesterday, Soro said each beneficiary received a DC solar engine pump and three solar panels to provide a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to fuel-powered irrigation.
He explained that the intervention was designed not only to provide farmers with irrigation equipment but also to improve access to water, reduce the cost of farming and enhance agricultural production across the constituency.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at creating sustainable opportunities for farmers by helping them harness solar energy to support year-round agricultural activities.
“Turning sunlight into water, water into crops, and crops into income is the real story behind this initiative,” Soro said.
He added that the intervention reflects a practical commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening sustainable agricultural development across the Darazo/Ganjuwa federal constituency.
According to him, the initiative is expected to enable beneficiaries to reduce their dependence on petrol and diesel-powered irrigation systems, thereby lowering production costs and improving their capacity to cultivate crops beyond the rainy season.
