Kogi Rep Mobilises Kano Yoruba for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

A member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has inaugurated a 27-member committee to mobilise Yoruba residents in Kano State for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Abejide, who disclosed this while addressing journalists at the palace of the Oba Yoruba of Kano, said the committee would coordinate an empowerment programme targeting 1 million Yoruba residents across the state’s 44 local government areas.

The lawmaker said the initiative would focus on widows, youth, women, artisans, entrepreneurs, vulnerable persons, and other community members who require economic support.

He charged the committee with ensuring transparency, accountability, and fairness in selecting beneficiaries, stressing that the programme must reach those who genuinely need assistance.

He said, “This committee must be transparent and upright. We must ensure that the empowerment gets to the people who genuinely need it, particularly our widows, the less privileged and vulnerable members of our community.”

Abejide said his relationship with Kano was beyond politics, noting that he had lived and done business in the state and established relationships with its residents.

“I belong to two states in Nigeria, Kogi State and Kano State. Kano has been an important part of my life. I lived here, I did business here, and I have built strong relationships with the people. This is therefore an opportunity for me to give back to the people,” he said.

He added that the initiative would combine grassroots empowerment, community engagement and political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.

Abejide said he would continue to mobilise support for Tinubu among Yoruba residents in Kano, while the committee would work with community stakeholders to identify beneficiaries and coordinate activities across the state.

The committee’s Kano coordinator, Seyi Olorunsola, pledged that members would place the interests of the people above personal considerations.

Olorunsola said the initiative would provide a platform to engage Yoruba residents across the state and offer economic support to thousands of individuals and families, particularly widows and other vulnerable members of the community.
