Governor Ademola Adeleke, has commiserated with residents and families affected by the recent flooding in parts of the state, asking residents to stop building and dumping refuse on waterways.
The governor expressed concern over the impact of the flooding on homes, businesses and livelihoods, noting that Osun has experienced excessive rainfall in recent weeks, putting additional pressure on drainage channels and waterways across the state.
Among communities affected were buildings located along Okoko river in Osogbo, structures constructed along Osun river bank at Oke-Arungbo Estate, where the building of the correspondent of Tribune Newspapers, Dr. Adeolu Adeyemo and others were submerged.
Adeyemo’s family and others alike have been displaced while household materials worth millions of naira have been lost to the flood.
LEADERSHIP had reported the havoc done by the torrential rainfall which lasted several hours on Monday.
Meanwhile a release by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, said Governor Adeleke has directed the Special Task Force on Environmental Sanitation led by Elder Ayanleye Aina, to visit affected areas and assess environmental conditions contributing to the flooding.
