2027: We’ll Counter Falsehoods Against Tinubu With Facts, Civic Engagement – Movement Vows

Ahead of the 2027 general election, the Tinubu Must Stay (TMS) Movement, has vowed to counter falsehoods against President Bola Tinubu with fact-based counter-narratives, evidence-driven alternative narratives on government programmes, and civic engagement.

According to the group, the reforms initiated over the past three years of Tinubu’s administration require continuity and further implementation to deliver their intended long-term outcomes.

TMS, a national advocacy and communication initiative established by citizens supporting continuity of the Tinubu administration, stated this at a press conference to mark Nigeria’s 66 independence anniversary in Abuja.

Addressing journalists, National Convener of the Movement, Ibrahim Uba, recalled that when President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, Nigeria confronted serious fiscal, monetary, security and social pressures.

According to Uba, the administration responded with major policy changes, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and foreign-exchange reforms.

He acknowledged that those measures have imposed substantial costs on households, with Nigerians experiencing higher living, transportation and energy costs.

“The challenges should neither be ignored nor understated. At the same time, public discussion should examine the administration’s full record—including measurable outcomes, unresolved problems and the longer-term objectives of its reforms.

“It is against this background that we introduce Tinubu Must Stay (TMS), a national advocacy and communication initiative established by citizens who support continuity of the Tinubu administration and want to promote their case through facts, data and public engagement.

“TMS will focus on explaining government policies, highlighting documented programmes and projects, responding to misinformation and creating platforms through which citizens can interrogate the administration’s record.

“Our approach will rest on three pillars: fact-based counter-narratives, evidence-driven alternative narratives on government programmes, and civic engagement.

“Through digital explainers, community dialogues, youth-focused engagements, media partnerships, expert analysis and citizen testimonies, the movement intends to make complex public policies easier to understand and debate,” Uba.

Highlighting the outcomes of the Tinubu’s reforms, he said Nigeria’s economy recorded improved real Gross Domestic (GDP) growth in the second quarter of 2026, compared with preceding years.

“Nigeria’s economy recorded 4.43 per cent real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 4.23 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2025 and 3.89 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

“Headline inflation stood at 15.39 per cent in August 2026, down marginally from 15.43 per cent in July. While this represents a moderation in the rate of inflation, it does not mean that prices have fallen; the Consumer Price Index continued to rise, meaning households still faced increasing prices, albeit at a slower rate.

“In education, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) reported by June that more than 1.5 million students had benefited from the student-loan programme, with over ₦282 billion disbursed. Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme has recorded more than 160,000 trained fellows across three cohorts, with about 1.87 million people registered and in the programme’s broader pipeline.

“In healthcare, the National Health Fellows Programme has deployed young Nigerians across the country’s 774 local government areas to support healthcare delivery, accountability and health-sector reform. The NG-CARES programme has also reported reaching more than 15 million Nigerians, while its expanded phase is intended to support vulnerable households, smallholder farmers and small businesses.

“Major road projects remain under construction, reconstruction or rehabilitation across the federation. The Presidency reported in May that more than 2,700 kilometres of highways and major roads were being worked on, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road and East-West Road.

“Another significant intervention is the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles. Current official figures indicate that more than 120,000 vehicles have been converted to CNG, supported by over 400 certified conversion centres and more than 90 refuelling stations.

“Operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other violent crimes have been intensified, leading to significant improvement across the country. Progress in this sector must ultimately be judged by measurable improvements in the safety of communities, highways, farms and businesses,” the TMS convener stated.

Uba maintained that the group does not intend to deny Nigeria’s difficulties but ensure that public debate about those difficulties also recognises many documented positive interventions and allows competing claims to be tested against evidence.

“We believe citizens should question government, verify claims, scrutinise policies and demand results. We equally believe achievements should be acknowledged where the evidence supports them.

“As Nigeria marks 66 years of Independence, TMS holds the view that reforms initiated over the past three years require continuity and further implementation to deliver their intended long-term outcomes. That is the case we intend to make to Nigerians—peacefully, factually and democratically.

“We invite citizens across regions, generations and professions to participate in informed national dialogue: to question, learn, verify and engage. Nigeria’s future belongs to all Nigerians, and the electorate holds the ultimate judgment on political leadership,” he added.
