2027: Labour Party Youth Leaders Seek Alliance With APC, Back Tinubu’s Re-election

The Youth Wing of the Labour Party has proposed an alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and groups supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The proposal was contained in a statement posted on the Labour Party’s verified X handle on Saturday evening.

According to the statement, the proposal followed a virtual meeting held on October 2, 2026, involving Labour Party National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, five National Zonal Youth Leaders and 32 State Youth Leaders.

The statement was signed by Comrade Ken Omusi, Edo State Youth Leader, “for all in attendance.”

Those listed as being in attendance were Ahanotu, five National Zonal Youth Leaders and 32 State Youth Leaders of the Labour Party.

The meeting, which commenced at 8:30pm, was convened to deliberate on the party’s political direction amid what the participants described as a “prolonged crisis” and the future of youth participation in national governance ahead of the 2027 elections.

The youth leaders expressed concerns over what they described as “inadequate recognition, total negligence, lack of engagements and no support for the youth constituency” during and after the 2023 general elections.

They also alleged that they had “laboured in vain” for a presidential candidate in the 2023 election who, according to them, “lacked the skills to consolidate.”

The statement said the participants subsequently deliberated on the need for a political platform and leader that would provide “greater opportunities for youth participation, leadership development, economic empowerment, and inclusion in national decision-making.”

The meeting also featured discussions on the policies and programmes of President Tinubu’s administration, including human capital development, youth empowerment, economic reforms, infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, agriculture and workers’ welfare.

“Participants expressed varying views on these issues and the potential implications for Nigeria’s sustainable development,” the statement said.

Following the deliberations, the youth leaders called on Ahanotu to commence consultations with stakeholders within the APC, the Renewed Hope Movement, the City Boy Movement and Tinubu Support Groups.

The statement said the consultations would seek to “explore the prospects of a political alignment and possible collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.”

The participants also expressed confidence in Ahanotu’s leadership and mandated him to facilitate the proposed alignment.

They, however, emphasised the importance of “broad-based consultations and consensus-building among the youth leadership.”

The statement further disclosed that the youth leaders proposed a physical gathering in Abuja on a mutually agreed date to review the outcome of the consultations and determine the next steps on the proposed political realignment.

According to the statement, the proposed engagement represents “an ongoing dialogue within the Labour Party’s youth constituency on political participation, strategic partnerships, and the role of young Nigerians in shaping the country’s political and developmental future.”
