NSCIA Expands Executive Council, Creates New Portfolios

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has expanded and restructured its National Executive Council (NEC), introducing new portfolios as part of efforts to strengthen the administration and operations of the apex Islamic body.

The changes were approved at the Council’s General Assembly held in Abuja on Thursday, October 1, 2026, according to a communiqué signed by Abbas Jimoh, Public Affairs Officer of the NSCIA.

The General Assembly, presided over by the NSCIA President-General, His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, brought together Muslim leaders, including traditional Islamic leaders and Chief Imams of Central Mosques from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Under the new structure, Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji was appointed Deputy Secretary-General (National), while Prof. Salisu Shehu will serve as Deputy Secretary-General (International).

Mr Abeny Mohammed (SAN) was appointed Deputy Secretary-General (Corporate), with Dr Bala Muhammad taking the position of Deputy Secretary-General (Administration).

The Council also appointed Dr Umar Jibrilu Gwandu as Public Relations Officer (PRO), while Hajia Sekinat Lawal will serve as Deputy Public Relations Officer (DPRO).

Other appointments include Dr Mairo Mandara as Development Officer and Architect Abdullahi Musa PenAbdul as Deputy Development Officer (Technical).

Prof. Fatimah Abdulkarim was appointed Family Affairs Officer, completing the expanded executive structure.

The NSCIA said the renewal and expansion of the NEC formed part of the decisions reached by the General Assembly, the Council’s highest decision-making organ.

The restructuring comes as the NSCIA seeks to strengthen its national administrative structure and broaden its executive responsibilities across key areas of its operations.

The appointments take effect following their approval by the General Assembly.
