Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a military base in communities affected by recent bandit attacks in Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said the move was aimed at strengthening security and facilitating the safe return of residents displaced by the attacks.
Idris disclosed this on Saturday during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Mustapha Adamu, following attacks that claimed the lives of the Village Head of Lafagu and other residents.
The governor’s chief press secretary, Ahmed Idris, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.
The attack, which reportedly involved the killing and beheading of the village head, was also confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman. The police spokesperson said some suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Idris said the planned military base would provide a stronger security presence in the affected communities and help prevent further attacks.
“We have concluded arrangements to establish a military base in the affected communities to strengthen security and protect our people,” the governor said.
He added that his administration was working with security agencies to track down those responsible for the attacks and restore normalcy to the affected areas.
The governor also visited camps housing residents displaced by the attacks, assuring them that the government would continue to support them until they could safely return to their communities.
“I am not going to tolerate these barbaric acts. In shaa Allah, the government is doing everything possible to protect the lives of our people. I will continue to support you and ensure that everyone returns safely to their villages,” he said.
Idris urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information on suspicious persons and activities.
He also warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, assuring them that the government would continue working with security agencies to address the security challenges.
The District Head of Kaoje thanked the governor for visiting the affected community and for his efforts to address the insecurity.
Adamu described the attacks as “un-Islamic and inhumane” and prayed for the governor and his entourage.
