The Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election Mr Peter Obi on Wednesday 7 October 2026 paid a condolences visit to the Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Aneke at NAF Headquarters over the Ondo military plane crash.
Obi was accompanied by Dr. Moses Paul National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement and other allied officials to commiserate with the service over the unfortunate plane crash that killed 5 crew members and 20 passengers in Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
A terse statement by the NDC on social said “His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, today in Abuja, visited the Headquarters of the Nigeria Air Force, to directly commiserate with the officers and men, on the loss of lives in the recent Force plane crash.*
“Mr Obi was accompanied by Dr. Moses Paul National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement and other allied officials .*
A Nigerian Air Force plane NAF 931 crashed on Monday 5 October 2026 in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
According to a statement by the NAF Spokesman Air Cdre Ehimen Ejodame, the aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred.
The statement said NAF 931 had 25 persons on board, “comprising five crew members and 20 passengers.
Search-and-rescue procedures were immediately activated, with response efforts conducted in coordination with relevant authorities to locate and account for all persons on board. No survivors have been found”.
The statement further said a condolence register has also been opened at Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Abuja, for senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of security agencies, and other well-wishers who may wish to pay their respects and convey messages of sympathy to the families of the deceased and the Nigerian Air Force,”.
