Many Injured As Buses Conveying APC Supporters Involved In Road Crash

Several supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were injured on Saturday after two buses conveying them to a political rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, were involved in a road accident.

Politics Nigeria reports that the buses were carrying supporters loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, from Benue State to the APC North-Central mega rally.

An eyewitness said the accident occurred in Lafia town, near the Government House Junction, on Saturday morning.

Dan-Morgan Ihomun, spokesperson for Akume’s APC camp in Benue State, confirmed the incident during a telephone conversation.

He said some of the party supporters sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment, adding that no life was lost.

“Yes, two vehicles conveying supporters of our party APC on their way to the venue of North Central mega rally today in Lafia involved in accident. Some were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Nobody died and we thank God for that,” Ihomun said.

The accident occurred as APC supporters from across the North-Central region converged on Lafia for a mega rally in support of President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Party members and supporters had begun arriving in the Nasarawa State capital on Friday ahead of Saturday’s event.

Several buses conveying the contingents were branded with images of Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and governors from states in the region, while chartered interstate buses were also used to transport supporters to the venue.

The rally, hosted by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, was expected to be headlined by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

In a separate development, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Downtown Stream and Leader of the Northern Caucus in the Green Chamber, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has called on Northerners to support Tinubu’s re-election bid and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Doguwa described the President’s second-term ambition as a moral political obligation for the people of Northern Nigeria.

“Working for President Tinubu’s re-election is a moral political obligation on the people of Northern Nigeria,” he said.

He urged Northerners to unite behind the President, arguing that their support would contribute to sustaining peaceful coexistence in the country.

“We must rise individually and collectively to unconditionally vote for Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term for the continuous peaceful coexistence of our great country, Nigeria,” the lawmaker said.

Doguwa made the remarks on Saturday when APC members, area supervisors and council advisers from his Doguwa constituency paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Kaduna.

He said the visit formed part of strategic preparations for the forthcoming general elections in his Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker expressed confidence that Tinubu would receive substantial support from the North during the next election, describing votes from the region as critical to the President’s re-election prospects.

He also maintained that the solidarity he receives daily demonstrates that the North remains committed to Tinubu and other APC candidates, despite what he described as propaganda against the ruling party.
