Tinubu’s Campaign Kicks Off October 24 In Kaduna — Yari

The Director-General of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has said the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 will kick off in Kaduna on October 24.

Yari disclosed this on Friday after meeting with President Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, where he briefed the President on preparations for the campaign and the timetable for planned state visits.

He said the campaign team had agreed on the schedule with the President and secured his approval for the proposed activities.

According to Yari, the inaugural meeting of the campaign team is scheduled for October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall, ahead of the formal campaign flag-off in Kaduna on October 24.

“The inaugural meeting is going to be done on the 14th of this month. That’s next Wednesday at the State House Banquet Hall, and by God’s grace, on the 24th of October, we’re going to do our flag-off campaign in Kaduna,” he said.

Yari added that the campaign team had also drawn up a timetable for visits to states across the country, with Port Harcourt and Maiduguri among the next destinations.

“The next state is going to Port Harcourt. From there, we will be in Maiduguri. We have the timetable, and we’re going to make it available after the inauguration,” he said.

He explained that the schedule had been discussed and approved by the President and the campaign team, adding that preparations were underway to ensure activities commenced as planned.

On the prospects of Tinubu’s re-election bid, Yari dismissed suggestions that opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, could unseat the President.

He argued that winning a presidential election required political support across the northern and southern parts of the country, adding that strength in one region alone might not be enough to secure victory.

According to him, the geographical spread of a candidate’s support base remains an important factor in determining the outcome of a presidential election.

Yari cited the electoral experience of former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that despite Buhari’s considerable support in the North, he could not win the presidency until he built broader political alliances.

“Look at Buhari of blessed memory. He had control of over 70 per cent at that time, over 11 states in the North, and had no control of one in the South. He couldn’t make it all the way,” he said.

The senator claimed that Tinubu had built considerable support across both regions since assuming office in May 2023, arguing that the President’s political base extended beyond the South-West.

He also defended the administration’s performance, saying Tinubu had taken steps to address the challenges inherited by his government and that its record would feature prominently in the campaign ahead of the 2027 election.

“President Bola Tinubu, since the time he assumed office, has turned around the situation that he met on the ground. Still, the economy is moving,” Yari said.

He maintained that the administration would focus on its record in office rather than rely solely on campaign promises.

“We are not promising. We are doing it, and we are going to continue,” he added.
