The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that it will match the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) fire-for-fire before, during and after the election until May 29, 2027 when its presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi and the other candidates of the party shall be inaugurated into office.
The national chairman of NDC, Senator Moses Cleopas who made this declaration while addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday, said the party will inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election on October 20, 2026.
The inauguration, according to him will take place during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting where certain key decisions related to next year’s polls will be ratified.
Cleopas said the party had already developed the organogram for the campaign council and mandated its presidential and vice presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to make key appointments.
Cleopas said the NEC would also feature the presentation of certificates of return to all candidates of the party for the 2027 general election.
He said the party is determined to fairly contest and has fielded candidates for all positions – the Presidential, Senate, House of Representatives, Governorship and State House of Assembly.
The NDC chairman maintained that the party’s commitment to the elections is sacrosanct and its resolve is absolute.
“The propaganda of our party not being committed to the elections is definitely a sign of fear in the camp of the APC whom Nigerians have demonstrated their dislike for, even before very active and formal campaign commence.
“In preparation for full campaign takeoff, we shall be holding a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party on the 20th day of October, 2026 to ratify certain key decisions related to the 2027 General Election.
“Similarly, Certificates of Return shall be presented to our candidates in the 2027 general election. Furthermore, the Presidential Campaign Council shall also be inaugurated,” he said.
Cleopas alleged that there is misinformation aimed at discouraging Nigerians from coming out to cast their votes but assured Nigerians, at home and abroad, that all votes shall count.
“To those planning to waste the effort of Nigerians from liberating themselves from the situation the APC has put this country in, we say: “ALLOW VOTES TO COUNT OR BE COUNTED.”
“While we are committed to playing fair, we definitely have the capacity to also grab and run with victory. We are equally ready to do all and anything within the laws of the land, to win should the President insist on not playing by the rules.
“Our commitment is clear; the 2027 general election is an opportunity for freedom for Nigeria and Nigerians. In our plan to play by the rules, we are identifying committed Nigerians who are members of our Party to serve as our polling and collation agents on election day.
“We shall match the APC fire-for-fire before, during and after the election until May 29, 2027 when, by the grace of God, the NDC Presidential candidate and the other candidates of our great Party shall be inaugurated in the country,” he said.
The NDC National Chairman said while the party will continue to hold the Judiciary and INEC in high esteem, it has resolved that its victory must be announced by presiding officers not Judges or those who cannot do simple arithmetic of addition and subtraction, insisting that security agencies must remain vigilant.
He called on President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to learn from his predecessors who chose the survival of the country rather than their personal ambition, saying former President Goodluck Jonathan is a celebrated example of a statesman, not a weak leader.
Cleopas said the party is support groups friendly and ready to accommodate more but it can not cede critical functions such as the constitution of presidential campaign council to any of them.
“We wish to thank Nigerians, especially young Nigerians, who have committed themselves to ensuring that the outcome of the 2027 general election reflects the will of the people and have formed groups to overwhelmingly support the NDC and our candidates. We will continue to provide the coordination needed to ensure that we succeed in our joint objective of making Nigeria work again.
“We are aware of the plans of the enemies of this country to float fake support groups in our camp. Coming from a group that is experienced in the formation and funding of fake agencies, we are not surprised at these antics.
“Note, however, that whosoever the APC and their co-travelers send to us to gamble with the freedom of our dear country, will see the light and turn away from your wicked and self-serving plan in the overall interest of our constitutional democracy.
“Finally, ladies and gentlemen, be assured that the National Leader of our party, the leadership and indeed all well-meaning party members are committed to ensuring that the 2027 general election removes the clueless, wicked and corrupt government of the APC who have no regard for the lives of Nigerians except primitive accumulation of wealth,” he added.
