Unknown Gunmen Kill 2 Police Officers In Rivers

Unknown gunmen on Monday night killed two police officers during an attack on a checkpoint along the Mbodo-Aluu-Airport Road in Port Harcourt.

The slain operatives were attached to Aluu Divisional Police Station in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m while the officers were carrying out a routine stop-and-search operation at a security checkpoint.

A viral video circulating on social media shows the lifeless bodies of the officers, still dressed in their uniforms, lying in pools of blood at the scene.

Our correspondent who visited the area reports that the motive for the attack remains unclear, as residents and business owners declined to comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, accompanied by members of the Command’s management team, visited the scene on Tuesday for an on-the-spot assessment.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, told our correspondent that the Command would issue an official statement on the incident.
