7 Miners Killed As Pit Collapses In Plateau Village

At least seven miners lost their lives after a mining pit collapsed on them at Kassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening while the victims were carrying out mining activities at the site.

According to a resident of the community, Albert Danlami, the incident occurred at about 7 pm when the pit suddenly collapsed on the miners while they were digging in the area.

Danlami said the victims were trapped underground following the collapse, prompting residents and other miners to commence efforts to recover them.

According to him, the incident caused panic in the community, with residents rushing to the mining site after the collapse.

He said the miners had been working at the site before the earth suddenly caved in on them.

Danlami also said some people were injured following the collapse.

Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

Tengwong said seven miners lost their lives in the incident, adding that the victims were at the mining site when the pit collapsed.

He said efforts were made to rescue the miners after the incident, but they were found dead.
