Governor Ademola Adeleke has taken an early lead in the Osun State governorship election as results from various polling units begin to trickle in across the state.

Early results seen from some polling units indicate strong performances for Adeleke, who is contesting under the Accord Party, as voters await the conclusion of voting and the official collation of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At Olukoro Village, Polling Unit 007, in Agba Registration Area of Boripe Local Government Area, Accord defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the results recorded at the polling unit.

The result sheet from the polling unit showed that Accord scored 97 votes, while the APC polled 82 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC), whose candidate is Najeem Salaam, scored two votes.

Other parties recorded smaller figures, with AA and AAC each scoring one vote, while YPP also secured one vote. Several other political parties recorded no votes.

The polling unit recorded 184 valid votes, according to the result sheet signed by the presiding officer. The form also showed that 185 ballot papers were used at the polling unit.

In Ila-Orangun, another result emerging from Unit 2, Ward 10, showed Accord ahead of the APC, with Adeleke’s party scoring 104 votes against 58 recorded by the APC. Five votes were declared void at the polling unit.

The emerging results from the polling units are not the final results of the election, as INEC is expected to collate results from across the state before announcing the winner.

The early figures, however, suggest a competitive contest between Adeleke, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji with ADC candidate Najeem Salaam trailing at third.

Adeleke, the incumbent governor, is seeking to retain the Osun governorship after moving to Accord for the 2026 election. Oyebamiji is the APC candidate and a former Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, while Salaam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, is contesting the election on the platform of the ADC.

The election has generated tension across Osun State, with the APC maintaining confidence that Oyebamiji will defeat Adeleke and return the party to power, while the incumbent and his supporters have expressed optimism about securing another term.

The emerging results come amid allegations of vote buying in different parts of the state.

A voter at Eleye Open Space, Polling Unit 5, Ward 8, in Irewole Local Government Area, had alleged that Accord paid N2,500 to voters, while the APC allegedly offered N20,000.

The allegation is part of wider claims of vote buying involving the two parties in different locations across Osun.

Reports also indicated that agents of APC and Accord allegedly distributed between N10,000 and N20,000 to voters in several local government areas.

In Ilesa, voters reportedly told journalists that APC agents were allegedly paying N20,000 per voter, while Accord was said to be offering N10,000 in some areas. In other locations, the amounts reportedly varied, with some voters claiming they collected money from both parties.

In Ila, residents reportedly alleged that Accord initially offered N10,000 before increasing the amount to N20,000, while APC was said to be offering N15,000. In Ile-Ife, a resident also alleged that APC offered N15,000, while Accord paid N10,000.
