The Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, has turbanned former Nigeria’s representative to the United Nations (UN), Prof. Tijjani Muhammad Bande, as the Baraden Besse (District Head of Besse).
Bande also served as the director-general, National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and was the former vice chancellor, Usman Danfodio University Sokoto.
At the occasion, Kebbi State governor, Alhaji Nasir Idris, as well as the former state governor, Atiku Bagudu, now minister of Budget and Economic Planning, former governor, Ambassador Sa’idu Dakingari and former governor, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero were in attendance. The event took place at the Abdullahi Fodio Palace, Birnin Kebbi at the weekend.
The emir described the day as an epic one for the people of the emirate because of the display of humility by the new district head.
He said, “Professor Bande has humbled himself by coming back home and assuming leadership as a district head, which he has inherited.
“The professor has maintained constant touch with home, he has never abandoned his people and now he’s back to his cradle at the helm of affairs with heroic acceptance,” he said.
The monarch commended Governor Idris for his giant strides in the development of Kebbi.
“The presence of three former governors is an indication of the dexterity and political acumen of the incumbent Governor to strengthen unity and cooperation in the state as the foundation of peace and development”, Iliyasu said.
Speaking with journalists shortly, the new District Head of Besse, Professor Tijjani Muhammad Bande, described the appointment as a burden of trust, which he vowed to uphold and deliver.
Professor Bande affirmed his loyalty, obedience and cooperation to Governor Nasir Idris, the Emir of Gwandu and the Emirate Council as a servant of the people.
