Nollywood actor Jigan Babaoja has raised concerns over what he described as the growing misuse of traditional herbal medicine for financial gain, warning that the practice could put lives at risk.
In a video shared on social media, the actor spoke against people exploiting Nigerians’ reliance on herbal remedies, particularly amid recent offers of traditional treatments to actor Taiwo Hassan during his cancer battle.
“Nigerians are turning herbal traditional medicine into a way of making money and pushing people to lose their lives. Something needs to be done,” Jigan said.
The actor has also spoken about his experience living with a disability and how it shaped his outlook on life.
In a separate post, Jigan claimed to have pioneered entertainment boxing in Nigeria, saying his disability prevented him from fully turning the idea into a source of income. He jokingly added that he would have taken on Portable and Carter Efe if he had both legs.
Reflecting on his childhood, the actor recalled believing that a nurse who gave him the injections that resulted in his disability had done so deliberately. He said his perspective changed as he grew older and began to see his experience differently.
Jigan said he intends to use his platform to support people living with disabilities and help ensure they do not feel limited or defined by their condition.
