There’s No One Like Her’: Trump Orders Flags Lowered To Honour Dolly Parton

US President Donald Trump has announced that American flags will be flown at half-staff across the country for one week in honour of country music icon Dolly Parton, who died on Tuesday at the age of 80.

Trump announced the decision in a post on his Truth Social platform shortly after Parton’s death was confirmed.

“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will.

“In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you,” Trump wrote.

Parton’s death was announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, in a video posted on her official Instagram account on behalf of the Parton and Owens families.

The family has not disclosed the cause of her death. Parton’s passing came days after she publicly spoke about health challenges that had forced her to cancel or miss several appearances, including the opening of a new attraction at her Dollywood theme park earlier this month.

At the time, she said her doctor had advised her not to travel.

“I’ve told you before, all my fans, that I’ve had a few little health issues, and sometimes I get a little dizzy and I get dehydrated,” she had explained in a video at the time.

According to a statement from Parton’s team, her immediate family will hold “a small, private service.” In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Parton leaves behind a career spanning more than five decades. She became the best-selling female country music artist of all time, selling more than 160 million albums worldwide.

She was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and won 11 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award.
