Mutfwang Reaffirms Commitment To Protect Lives, Calls For Unity In Plateau

Plateau State governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection of life and property.

He assured the residents that his government will continue to deploy lawful means at its disposal to safeguard them and their communities against banditry, criminality and other security threats.

Governor Mutfwang gave the assurance yesterday at the 2026 Plateau Annual Convention of the General Council of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, North East Zone, held at the Assemblies of God Nigeria, Jos District Headquarters, Gyel Jos South local government area.
The convention was held under the theme, “Breaking Barriers into Your Next Level.”
The governor expressed profound appreciation to the leadership and members of the Assemblies of God Nigeria for their steadfast support, prayers and commitment to the peace and development of the state.
He acknowledged that the state had gone through difficult moments, particularly in the area of security, but assured that the government, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, had continued to strengthen measures to confront the perpetrators of violence and restore lasting peace across the State.
Governor Mutfwang also commended the Church for its contributions to the spiritual and moral development of society, noting that the Assemblies of God Nigeria was born out of revival and could only continue to flourish through sustained spiritual renewal. He prayed for God’s continued blessings, growth and greater impact for the Church in Plateau State and Nigeria.

The Governor declared, “I cannot abandon my responsibility of securing the people of Plateau State. We will protect our people with all that we have, within the ambit of the law.” He acknowledged the difficult forces that have continued to challenge Nigeria’s development but expressed confidence in the resilience, strength and greatness of the Nigerian nation.

He stressed that Plateau State would not be defeated by violence or the gun, calling on citizens to remain united and reject the spirit of the “pull-him-down” syndrome. According to him, the collective strength of the people remains critical to overcoming the challenges confronting the State.

Governor Mutfwang particularly appealed to Christian leaders to rise above divisions and become strong rallying points for unity, peace and progress. He urged Christians to put aside differences, bitterness, unforgiveness, arrogance and other attitudes that undermine the unity of the Body of Christ, and instead embrace humility, love and reconciliation in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ.

He further stated that his involvement in politics was driven by a desire to serve God and humanity, noting that his administration had remained focused on changing the negative narrative about Plateau State while pursuing development across critical sectors of the economy and improving the welfare of the people.

Meanwhile, the former General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria and Guest Speaker at the convention commended Governor Mutfwang for his resilience and commitment to protecting lives and property in Plateau State.

He prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and grace for the Governor to continue leading the State with the fear of God.

Also speaking, the Executive Council member representing the North East Zone, Rev. Jacob S. Langs, appreciated Governor Mutfwang for honouring the invitation to the convention and acknowledged his contributions to the development of Plateau State and the Assemblies of God Nigeria.

He particularly expressed appreciation for the opportunities and appointments extended to sons and daughters of the Church and the Gyel community.

The convention culminated in a generous donation by Governor Mutfwang to support widows, empower youths through entrepreneurship initiatives, and strengthen the convention’s activities, further underscoring his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and the welfare of vulnerable members of society.
