Gombe L-PRES Completes Artificial Insemination And Breed Multiplication Centre

Amid the growing challenges posed by climate change, population growth and rising demand for animal products, Nigeria’s drive to adopt advanced technologies for sustainable livestock production and food security has received a significant boost.

In Gombe State, the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project has completed the construction of a modern Artificial Insemination (AI) and Breed Multiplication Centre, marking a major step towards improving livestock genetics and productivity in the state and beyond.

The project forms part of the broader livestock transformation agenda of the Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya-led administration, which seeks to modernise livestock production, improve farmers’ livelihoods and unlock the economic potential of the sector.

Located within the Faculty of Agriculture, Gombe State University, the Centre is designed to facilitate access to improved livestock genetics, enhance animal productivity and strengthen the foundation for a more productive, resilient and commercially viable livestock sector.

The facility will also serve as a practical learning and training centre for students, while supporting research, commercial artificial insemination services and the development and distribution of quality genetic materials. These interventions are expected to contribute to improved breeds, higher productivity, stronger livestock value chains and greater opportunities for farmers.
