Abia State Governor Alex Otti has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to his state to approach the programme with discipline, commitment, humility and a willingness to learn.
Otti stated this at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Umunna in Bende local government area.
Represented by the state’s commissioner for sports and youth development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, he said the service remained an important instrument of national integration for young Nigerians.
He said, “I expect each of you to contribute meaningfully to the development of your host communities and to leave a positive mark wherever you are posted.
”Your service will not be measured only by its successful completion, but also by the impact you make, the relationships you build and the skills you acquire along the way.
”At this juncture, I wish to assure you that this administration remains firmly committed to the welfare of all corps members serving in the state.” He added that he had no doubt that at the end of their service year, they would look back with satisfaction at the experiences gained and the lives touched.
In his address, the commissioner assured them that the government remains firmly committed to the welfare and security of corps members posted to the state
He said, “Through the NYSC and security agencies, our government shall continue to ensure that your security and welfare remains a top priority at all times.
”We are constantly in synergy with security agencies to constantly watch and secure your various accommodations and places of primary assignment.”
State coordinator of the NYSC, Yunusa Tanimu, said the orientation course prepares the members for their statutory service, expose them to discipline, teamwork, national integration, civic responsibility, safety and leadership.
Tanimu thanked the state government for the commencement of the new state allowance for the members, provision of some equipment at the NYSC State Secretariat and renovation work at the orientation camp.
He appealed for the speedy implementation of the second phase of the camp renovation and urgent intervention against emerging erosion threats within the camp.
