‎NAF Launches Search, Rescue After Aircraft Accident In Ondo

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has activated an immediate search and rescue operation following an aircraft accident in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The NAF said the ATR-42 aircraft was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF said the search and rescue operation was being conducted in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.

The incident had earlier caused panic among residents of the coastal community, with several people feared dead.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the crash and said efforts were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The command also urged residents to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information.

The NAF said further details would be communicated as the search and rescue operation progresses.
