Helen Paul Reveals Criticism Nearly Derailed Her Marriage

Nigerian comedian and actress Helen Paul has revealed that criticism from people around her husband, Femi Bamisile, a legal practitioner and academic, left her questioning whether their marriage would last.

Paul said people close to Femi, including his friends and bosses, had advised him against marrying her, with one of his bosses even questioning why he was dating her.

The comments, she recalled, made her feel that she was not good enough for her future husband and left her struggling with insecurity during their courtship.

That uncertainty followed Paul to her wedding day, where she opened up to Femi about her fears for their future together.

“If we last two years in this marriage, I’ve tried. But if we last forever, then God is the one at work,” she recalled telling him.

Speaking about dealing with criticism, Paul said the experience eventually changed how she viewed other people’s opinions.

Rather than allowing outside judgments to determine her worth, she said she learned to separate what people said about her from how she saw herself.

Her reflection highlights how criticism from people close to a relationship can sometimes create doubts even before a marriage begins.
