Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has confirmed the release of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted while traveling to their orientation camps in the state.
Uzodinma conveyed the development to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, during a telephone conversation at about 5pm on Wednesday.
According to Vanguard, in a statement by the Olubadan’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, the Imo governor personally informed the monarch of the release of the prospective corps members.
The development has brought relief to the families and loved ones of the victims, who had been anxiously awaiting news of their safety.
Oloko said the Olubadan had been closely monitoring developments surrounding the abduction and expressed relief following Uzodinma’s confirmation.
The monarch had earlier expressed concern over the fate of the prospective corps members and followed efforts to secure their safe release.
According to the statement, the governor’s confirmation brought renewed hope to the families and other Nigerians who had been concerned about the safety of the abducted prospective corps members.
