Man Remanded Over Alleged Theft Of 22 Pants For Rituals

A Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Muktar Shehu, over the alleged theft of 22 pieces of women’s pants for suspected ritual purposes.

The defendant, a resident of Zango Ward in Jimeta, Yola-North local government area, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 3, presided over by Uwani Danladi, following his arrest by the police.

He was charged with alleged house trespass, theft and criminal damage.

According to the First Information Report presented before the court by the prosecutor, Inspector Danjuma Hamidu, the defendant allegedly broke into the residence of a woman identified as Halima Yakubu on 6 August 2026 and stole 22 pants along with other clothing items.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant, during police interrogation, allegedly disclosed that he took the clothing items for ritual purposes.

When the allegations were read to him in court, Muktar pleaded guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, however, applied to call a witness to corroborate the defendant’s plea before further proceedings.

The court subsequently ordered the defendant’s remand to a correctional facility in Yola pending further proceedings.
