Nasarawa State government has boosted digital learning in public secondary schools with the award of contracts for the supply and installation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)equipment and solar electricity systems in 55 public secondary schools.
The project is being executed under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), a World Bank-supported programme.
The commissioner for Education, Dr John Mamman, disclosed this in Lafia during the opening of bids for the contracts.
Mamman said the intervention was another milestone in the effort of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration to entrench sustainable and quality education in the state.
He said the government had continued to prioritise capacity development, infrastructure upgrade and provision of instructional materials to improve learning outcomes in line with global standards.
The commissioner noted that the governor had remained consistent in providing the needed support for the smooth implementation of the AGILE project since its inception in the state.
He assured that the implementation process, particularly contract awards, would be anchored on transparency, accountability and inclusivity, without favouritism or personal interest.
In her remarks, the State AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Aisha Isoga, said the provision of ICT equipment and solar power was part of the World Bank’s requirements for the programme.
Isoga said the intervention would cover 55 public secondary schools across the state, including 30 schools currently under construction.
She disclosed that over 200 teachers and technical staff had been trained to ensure effective use of the facilities and to enhance teaching and learning.
The bidding was conducted in the presence of 93 shortlisted contractors and officials of the Nasarawa State Bureau for Public Procurement.
