Police Rescue 2 Abducted Victims, Neutralise Bandits, Recover AK 47

The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued two abducted persons, neutralised one armed bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a joint security operation in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.

The Command disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, stating that the operation was conducted at about 2:30 pm on Monday, 24 August 2026.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out by Police Tactical Operatives, members of the Community Protection Guard and Civilian JTF along Tashar Lawali Village in Kagara District.

The security team intercepted a group of armed bandits riding on five motorcycles and moving with abducted persons.

In sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire. The joint team responded with superior firepower, forcing the bandits to retreat,” the statement said.

During the encounter, one bandit was neutralised. An AK-47 rifle and its magazine were recovered from the suspect.

Two of the abducted victims were also rescued unhurt. The Command said other members of the gang fled into the surrounding bushes with suspected gunshot injuries.

“One member of the joint security team was injured in the operation, “the police added.

The Command said the operation was still ongoing as operatives had intensified efforts to track the fleeing suspects, rescue more abducted victims and recover additional weapons.

The Commissioner of Police, CP A.M. Bello, commended the security personnel for their courage and prompt response.

He assured residents that the Command would sustain intelligence-led and coordinated operations to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace across the state.
