Female Musician Seeks Rivers Govt’s Support For Entertainment Industry

A female musician, Gift Eke, popularly known as ‘Muma Gee’, has called on the Rivers State government and well-meaning individuals to support and help raise the entertainment industry in the state.

Eke made the call while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, the state capital, ahead of her “Muma Gee Comeback Concert”, which will be used to officially announce her return to the industry after close to two decades of absence.

She stated that it is time for the state to return to its original position, where people travel from far and near to free their minds and unwind.

Muma Gee said: “We call on the government and not just the government; we call on the successful business people, illustrious sons and daughters of Rivers State, to begin to build the mindset to support and raise the entertainment industry in Rivers State.

“It is a shame that everyone, the people in the hospitality industry, entertainers, are complaining. We don’t expect the Rivers State government to do everything for us. We are ready on the ground to work. We are going to work it out. We will partner with the media to boost the entertainment industry in Rivers State.

“After this briefing, we will have a brief meeting to think about the way forward for entertainers in Rivers State, their welfare, and the systematic operation of entertainment in the state. It is very key.

“Port Harcourt used to be a “happening” town. Let’s take Rivers State back to the ancient, bubbling state where great musicians like Rex Lawson, the Western, and the rest of them were doing things, and people would come.

“The likes of Ojukwu used to come all the way to Rivers State, from the Eastern part and Lagos to bubble in Port Harcourt, free their mind, unwind and go back to work. So, we should take Port Harcourt back to that level.

“We can depoliticise Rivers State and raise the bar of the entertainment industry here and get Lagos to come here to do stuff; get other people from all over the world to come here to do stuff, and this will raise the GDP of the state.

“Nigeria is rated high today internationally in the entertainment industry. Our GDP is top-notch up there because of the entertainment industry, especially in Lagos. So, why can’t we replicate the same here? We will create a blueprint and roadmap and take it from there.”
