MDCN Accreditation: UNIZIK Gets N5m For Medical Centre

The Charles Kene Ojukwu Initiative (CKOi) Okunenyeife Foundation has donated N5 million to Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, for the reconstruction of the walkway pavilion linking the old University Medical Centre with the newly constructed Medical Centre building.

The donation comes ahead of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) accreditation exercise.

Presenting the donation at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the manager of the foundation, Mr Sylvester Ojiugo, and a lecturer at the university, Dr Chibuike Abunike, handed over the funds on behalf of the founder, Dr Charles Kenechukwu Ojukwu.

The donation was facilitated by the special adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on New Media, Mr Ekene Prosper Ezeumeanya, who had earlier introduced Ojukwu, a UNIZIK alumnus and Canada-based medical doctor, to the vice chancellor, Prof Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie.

The foundation had, during Ojukwu’s visit to the university in June 2026, pledged to support the institution, particularly the development and upgrading of its medical centre.

During the presentation, Abunike said the donation was part of further interventions Ojukwu planned for the university.

In her vote of thanks, the deputy vice chancellor (Administration), Prof Hilda Osisioma, thanked the foundation for fulfilling part of its pledge and supporting the Medical Centre.

The Director of Medical Services, Dr Jane Ezeonu, also expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for supporting partnerships and collaborations, and thanked Ojukwu for the donation.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the donor and said the university would continue to welcome support from alumni and development partners towards its development.

The N5 million donation will be used to reconstruct the walkway pavilion connecting the old and new Medical Centre buildings.
