Tinubu Barracks Project Nears Completion, Says Presidency

Presidency has said the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II project in Abuja is nearing completion.

When completed, over 1,000 soldiers and their families are expected to benefit from the new accommodation.

The project, approved and funded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, comprises 30 family quarters, six blocks of senior officers’ accommodation, an Army club, a mammy market, bridges, drainage systems and other supporting infrastructure.

The development is expected to serve more than 6,000 people when completed and occupied.

The Presidential Media Team, led by the special adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Chief Sunday Dare, alongside the senior special assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, Mr Otega Ogra, inspected the project in Abuja on Tuesday.

During the exercise, Dare described the project as one of the tangible benefits of the Tinubu administration’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy.

He said resources that would previously have been committed to subsidy were being redirected towards infrastructure and other development projects capable of creating lasting public assets.

Dare said the project demonstrated how the President’s decision to change the direction of public spending was translating into infrastructure with implications for military welfare, employment and national security.

He urged Nigerians to continue to believe in President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the administration’s policies were beginning to produce visible results across different sectors.

Ogra highlighted the project’s economic impact, saying that thousands of Nigerians were benefiting, directly or indirectly, from its construction.

Engineers, artisans, labourers, suppliers, technicians and other service providers are involved in the project, creating an economic chain around the construction.

A labourer at the site, identified as Usman, said the project had also changed his personal circumstances.

Usman said he had been unable to get married until he secured employment on the project.

He said: “Today, I am married and I have a child.”

The project is part of the Nigerian Army’s wider infrastructure development across the country.

A similar barracks project is nearing completion in Ekiti State, while expansion works are underway at the Nigerian Army Depot in Amasiri-Edda, Ebonyi State, and at the Osogbo project in Osun State.

The projects form part of efforts to strengthen accommodation, logistics, and other infrastructure that support Army formations and personnel.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is leading the Army’s efforts to translate the Federal Government’s policy direction and investment into institutional and operational outcomes.

The infrastructure programme comes alongside wider measures cited by the administration to strengthen the military, including investments in personnel, equipment, training and operational capabilities.

Four additional divisions have been created, while plans for further recruitment have been announced. Military salaries have also been increased, alongside investments in combat-enabling equipment, including drones.

The administration has also cited the training of forest guards and enhanced military cooperation and intelligence-sharing arrangements with the United States.

It has further cited more than 10,000 terrorists neutralised, over 8,000 apprehended and approximately 7,700 hostages rescued, as well as educational support for more than 12,000 children of fallen heroes.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II is expected to become a long-term asset of the Nigerian Army, providing accommodation and support facilities for soldiers and their families while contributing to the broader military infrastructure.

The Presidency said the project illustrates how resources freed by the removal of fuel subsidy are being channelled into public infrastructure, while also generating employment and supporting military welfare.
