Police Rescue 1 Of 6 Kogi-bound Passengers Abducted In Kwara

One of the six passengers kidnapped on Eruku-Iyemero Road in Kwara State last Saturday has been rescued by the joint security agencies.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the rescued victim has been reunited with his family in Iyamoye community of Kogi State.

It was further gathered that most of the abductees, including a newlywed, are indigenes of Kogi State.

When contacted yesterday for an update on the rescue operation launched by the Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti State police commands, the commissioner of police in Kwara, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the rescue of one of the abductees.

“Yes, our operation is yielding positive results. One of the victims was rescued two days ago. He’s a native of Iyamoye in Kogi State. He has been reunited with his family in Iyamoye.

He has given us useful information that could aid our rescue operation.

“We are very, very close to the bandits, I can assure you,” the police commissioner said.

“I think most of the victims are from Kogi State. They were only travelling through Kwara State when they were abducted last Saturday,” Ojo added.

LEADERSHIP reports that the operatives of the Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states police command had launched a joint operation to fish out the bandits that abducted six passengers along Eruku- Iyemero road in Kwara State and rescue the victims.

Eruku town in Kwara shares a border with Kogi and Ekiti states.

LEADERSHIP recalled that the six abductees, including a newlywed couple, were abducted on Saturday while returning from the couple’s engagement ceremony.

LEADERSHIP further gathered that the vehicle conveying the victims was seen parked at an old police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State.

The Kwara State commissioner of police, Adekimi Ojo, who confirmed the story, said that soldiers and other security agents were combing the bush in Eruku. axis to fish out the perpetrators and rescue the victims

Confirming that the vehicle, in which the victims were travelling, was parked at an abandoned police station in Ayetoro, Ekiti State, Ojo added that police personnel in the affected three states were jointly carrying out a rescue operation since the crime was committed along border communities in the three states.

When contacted, the coordinator of Joint Security Watch, Kwara South, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, said he didn’t have any information on the development, except what he read on social media.

Oyin- Zubair’s response further reinforced the suggestion that the abductees are not probably indigenes or residents of Kwara State.
